1. Learn Both Ramen AND Sushi in One Class

Two friends smiling with handmade ramen bowls at our Tsukishima cooking class

This is the #1 reason guests choose us. In our daily conversations with guests at the start of each class, “we wanted to make both ramen and sushi” comes up in roughly 3 of every 10 bookings.

Most cooking classes in Tokyo focus on a single dish. We combine Japan’s two most iconic foods — plus sake pairing — into one 2.5–3 hour session.

“I like to travel a lot and this was by far the best cooking class I’ve experienced. I not only learned so much about how to cook ramen and sushi, but also about the culture of Japan.” — Kayla Babaeian, 2026-05-17, ★★★★★

“Really enjoyed this class and learned a lot about sushi technique and how to make shoyu ramen. I can’t wait to try the recipes plus the bonus recipe.” — Tu Nguyen, 2026-04-15, ★★★★★

What you’ll make:

  • Authentic ramen from scratch, including the broth
  • Hand-shaped nigiri sushi using fresh ingredients
  • Handmade gyoza as a delicious bonus when available

One guest from the U.S. put it simply: “I’ve been to sushi classes before in the U.S., but being able to make ramen AND sushi in Japan? That’s the complete experience.”

2. 5.0★ from 700+ Reviews — and Friends Told Them to Come

A warm group celebration with our host at Ramen Cooking Tokyo

When you’re choosing a cooking class in a foreign country, reviews matter. We see this in two ways:

  • About 1 in 5 booking guests explicitly mention reviews or ratings as the reason they picked us (from our daily class intake)
  • More than half of post-class reviews mention that they would recommend the class — and many guests arrive saying a friend, cousin, or coworker had already told them to come

“The best cooking class with the best hosts. So accommodating and made some amazing dishes. We learnt a lot and had some amazing conversations. Could not recommend enough!” — Tori Khan, 2026-05-13, ★★★★★

“My husband and I enjoyed this class so much we’ve recommended it to all our friends that plan to visit Japan.” — Samantha Gonzalez, 2026-04-17, ★★★★★

“Such a lovely sushi and ramen making experience! It was a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, and learn a lot about Japanese cuisine and culture.” — JJ, 2026-04-19, ★★★★★

See for yourself — our Google Reviews are fully public and updated daily by guests.

3. Small Group, Personal Experience

Two guests sharing the experience with our host in a small-group setting

We cap every session at 8 guests, and many guests specifically searched for this.

“Amazing and fun class! We had a small group and really enjoyed it! I would do it again!” — Justin Meyer, 2026-04-22, ★★★★★

“Great class with wonderful teachers. Small groups to really learn and have fun. 10/10 would recommend.” — Gio Dudley, 2026-04-21, ★★★★★

“Really enjoyed this class and learned a lot about sushi technique and how to make shoyu ramen. We really enjoyed the small group feel of the class as well. Highly recommended!” — Tu Nguyen, 2026-04-15, ★★★★★

In larger cooking classes (some Tokyo schools take 20+ participants), you can spend more time watching than cooking. In our small groups, everyone gets hands-on time with every dish — you’ll actually make the ramen, shape the nigiri, and fold the gyoza yourself.

The intimate setting also means:

  • More personal attention from our host
  • Flexibility to adjust to your pace and interests
  • Genuine conversations with fellow travelers from around the world
  • Better photos (less crowded backgrounds)

4. Real Cooking Skills — Broth from Scratch, Sushi by Hand

A guest hands-on kneading ramen noodle dough from scratch

The technique we teach you is the same technique we use every day. Guests notice the difference between “watching someone make ramen” and “actually making ramen from raw ingredients.”

“I have tried making nigiri sushi before but never successful. The technique I was taught made it easy to make. The ramen was also delicious.” — Yukari Sakamoto, 2026-05-09, ★★★★★

“Great cooking class with very knowledgeable and kind hosts. We made our own sushi and ramen, which tasted delicious and at the end we got the recipe to make it at home ourselves.” — Georg Peschel, 2026-03-11, ★★★★★

“Very nice experience! Good follow up on how to make the dishes from start to finish.” — Petter Solvik Dahle, 2026-05-04, ★★★★★

You’ll learn:

  • Ramen broth from scratch — the soul of any good ramen, deeply layered umami
  • Sushi rice and nigiri technique — the part most home cooks get wrong
  • Noodle and gyoza assembly when included
  • Plating and seasoning — small touches that make a big difference

5. Sake Pairing Included

The full experience isn’t just cooking — it’s cooking, eating, and pairing.

“Great food and fun time. Good people and great class. Delicious sake and funny people.” — Jacqueline Braun, 2026-04-15, ★★★★★

What’s included with your class:

  • Curated selection of three premium Japanese sake (junmai, junmai ginjo, junmai daiginjo levels)
  • Brief explanation of sake types and how they pair with different dishes
  • Unlimited beer and soft drinks (for non-sake drinkers)
  • A relaxed pace so you can enjoy the meal you just cooked

6. Easy Tsukishima Location

We’re a 5-minute walk from Tsukishima Station on the Oedo and Yurakucho lines — central Tokyo, between Ginza and Toyosu.

The location works well for travelers because:

  • Walking distance from Tsukiji outer market (~15 min on foot, easy to combine in one day)

  • A 5-minute taxi ride from teamLab Planets in Toyosu
  • A residential neighborhood feel away from the tourist crush

7. Two Ways to Take the Class: Group or Private (Plus Gyoza and Dietary)

A full group of guests celebrating completion of their cooking class together

We run two formats of the same class. Both share the same menu — ramen, sushi, sake pairing — and the same hands-on approach. Pick whichever fits your trip.

“Amazing and fun class! We had a small group and really enjoyed it! I would do it again!” — Justin Meyer, 2026-04-22, ★★★★★ (group class)

“Had a great class with our cast. I was the only student so it was basically a private class! Learnt a lot about traditional Japanese foods and learnt how to make ramen broth. Yum yum.” — Rose Maclaurin, 2026-01-22, ★★★★★ (effectively private)

Group Class (default)

You join a small group of up to 8 other travelers from around the world. Most guests pick this option, and many tell us afterwards that meeting fellow travelers became part of the memory.

  • Up to 8 guests, 4 hosts in the kitchen
  • Mix of solo, couple, friend, and family bookings
  • Genuine cross-cultural conversation
  • Standard schedule: morning (10:00–13:00) or afternoon (14:00–17:00)

Private Class

You book the whole 8-person kitchen for your own group. The class itself is the same, but everything else adapts to you — pace, conversation, menu flexibility, photo and video freedom, special occasion timing.

  • The entire kitchen, just for your group (1 to 8 people)
  • More flexibility on menu and pace
  • Easy to fit anniversaries, birthdays, family days, or friend reunions
  • Same morning or afternoon time slots, plus some flexibility for arrival/departure

To book Private Class, please contact us before reserving — we’ll confirm availability and pricing for your date and group size.

Customizations Available for Either Format

“This place was great — both sushi and ramen class was beautifully done. Also had people in the class that had dietary restrictions (vegetarian and chicken) and they went above and beyond to make 3 separate ramens so everyone could enjoy.” — Brad Rodrigues, 2025-10-10, ★★★★★

“Excellent service and food. They catered to my dietary needs and were very thoughtful.” — Hallie Brass, 2025-08-13, ★★★★★

8. Take Skills Home to Your Country

Many guests join because they want to recreate Japanese food at home, not just eat it once.

“I have tried making nigiri sushi before but never successful. The technique I was taught made it easy to make.” — Yukari Sakamoto, 2026-05-09, ★★★★★

“The instructors were so friendly and made the class easy to follow. The recipes are simple and delicious — great to bring back home!” — Catherine Min, 2026-04-29, ★★★★★

“Really enjoyed this class and learned a lot about sushi technique and how to make shoyu ramen. I can’t wait to try the recipes plus the bonus recipe.” — Tu Nguyen, 2026-04-15, ★★★★★

To help you succeed at home, every guest leaves with:

  • Recipe cards with step-by-step instructions
  • Ingredient substitution tips for ingredients hard to find outside Japan
  • Photos of your cooking process so you can review the technique later
  • Simplified methods that work in any standard home kitchen

Many guests later send us photos of ramen they’ve made for their families. That’s our favorite part.

9. Perfect for Birthday and Anniversary Surprises

10. An Authentic Japanese Cultural Experience

For many guests, the class is less about cooking technique and more about a slower, deeper window into Japanese culture.

“Great class, recommend to anyone wanting to learn the history and culture of cooking in Japan.” — Darian Lanham, 2026-04-19, ★★★★★

This is the part we care most about. The class is built around our tagline — “Beyond Cooking — Feel the Connection” — and we measure success not by how perfect the noodles are, but by whether you leave feeling like you spent an afternoon with people, not just at an event.

Bonus: Warm Hosts Who Make You Feel at Home

Our host explaining a cooking step to a group of guests around the table

This one isn’t a numbered reason because it’s almost universal — but it shows up so often in our reviews that we want to name it directly. Our cast (the team who teaches each class) gets called out by name in roughly 4 out of every 10 Google reviews. Out of respect for the team, we’ve kept individual names out of this guide — but the experience guests describe is real.

“We had an absolutely unforgettable evening at the ramen and sushi cooking class with our cast! From the very first moment, they made us feel not like guests, but like friends welcomed into their home. Their warmth, patience, kindness, and passion for Japanese culture created such a special atmosphere.” — Danuta Kopieniak, 2026-05-15, ★★★★★

“My daughter and I had such a great time making sushi and ramen. Truly classic Japanese hospitality with great recipes. Our cast was so fun and caring. Truly a memorable day to be cherished for years to come.” — Nazila Parsi, 2026-05-17, ★★★★★

“I like to travel a lot and this was by far the best cooking class I’ve experienced. I not only learned so much about how to cook ramen and sushi, but also about the culture of Japan. I had the pleasure of being taught by our cast. So if you’re in Japan, I hope you find the opportunity to take this class.” — Kayla Babaeian, 2026-05-17, ★★★★★

If you read through our Google reviews, you’ll see the names — they’re real people doing real work, and we’re grateful that guests notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the cooking class?

The class runs for approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. This includes hands-on cooking time for ramen and sushi (or gyoza), plus time to enjoy your meal with sake pairing. We never rush — you’ll have plenty of time to learn, ask questions, and savor your creations.

Do I need cooking experience?

Absolutely not. Our classes welcome complete beginners. We guide you through every step, from preparing the broth to shaping nigiri sushi. Many of our guests have never cooked Japanese food before, and they leave feeling confident to recreate these dishes at home.

Is the class suitable for children?

Yes. We love having families. Children aged 5 and up can participate with adult supervision. The hands-on nature of making sushi and (when available) gyoza is especially fun for kids. Please let us know in advance if you’re bringing children so we can prepare accordingly. See our guide to cooking classes for kids in Tokyo.

What dietary restrictions can you accommodate?

With advance notice, we can adjust for no raw fish, no pork, and most common allergies. We cannot currently accommodate fully vegetarian, vegan, or halal needs in the group class. Private bookings give us more flexibility — please reach out at least 48 hours before your class.

How do I get to your kitchen in Tsukishima?

Our kitchen is located in HAUS Tsukishima, 2nd Floor (2-13-5 Tsukuda, Chuo-ku, Tokyo). It’s a 5-minute walk from Tsukishima Station (Exit 7) on the Oedo and Yurakucho subway lines. The area is also walking distance from Tsukiji Market — many guests visit Tsukiji in the morning and then join our afternoon class.

Can I book on the same day?

Sometimes. We do release last-minute slots when private bookings cancel, but standard practice is to book 1–2 weeks ahead (3–4 weeks during cherry blossom, Golden Week, October–November, or year-end).
