A personal note
For Tom

Thank you for opening this page.
I’m Johnny Ozaki, founder of Ramen Cooking Tokyo — a small hands-on cooking class in Tsukishima where guests simmer ramen broth from scratch and hand-form their own sushi.
I’ve been reading your Japan Travel pieces, and I’d love to invite you, as our guest, to come try a session.
We started this with a single hope: that for our guests, Japan would shift from being “an interesting place” into “a relationship they want to come back to.” Under the line “Beyond Cooking — Feel the Connection,” what we care about most is the cultural exchange between guests and our Japanese hosts.
In your recent Earthboat piece, you described it as “positioned somewhere between camping and glamping” — removing the effort of one while avoiding the polished feel of the other. Reading that, I thought we might be trying for something close. We aim to balance ease of access with the real thing, and “somewhere in between” might actually be the right way to describe what we do.
Would love to chat.
Open to any week. If you’re curious, just reply with 2-3 dates that work for you.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
